It's a part of this new era of college football that fans and coaches are going to have to accept sooner rather than later.
NIL and a seemingly always-open transfer portal have made player mobility easier than ever, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers may find that out in a brutal way this offseason.
According to Chris Hummer of CBS Sports, the powers that be in Lincoln aren't feeling great about their ability to retain star quarterback Dylan Raiola for 2026. At the very least, there is the feeling that Raiola will look at his options this offseason.
"There's some doubt about the future of Dylan Raiola at Nebraska," Hummer reported. "Raiola's brother, Dayton, decommitted from the Huskers last week, and the program is bracing for Dylan to explore his future options."
Dayton Raiola, a three-star quarterback, had been committed to Nebraska since September of 2024, so his breaking off that commitment a week ago was a pretty big deal.

Is that an indication that his older brother will be leaving Nebraska? Not necessarily. It's worth noting that Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has become an incredible resource for the older Raiola as the quarterback is dealing with a broken fibula.
One would imagine that Nebraska will also try to be competitive in the NIL space, as other programs will undoubtedly try to lure the former five-star quarterback away from Lincoln with more money.
Suppose Dylan Raiola does decide to hit the transfer portal. In that case, he'll absolutely be one of the biggest quarterback targets in the country as he heads into his junior season with two seasons of starting experience under his belt at Nebraska.
He's played in 22 games at Nebraska, throwing for 4,819 yards and 31 touchdowns compared to 17 interceptions. Of his 22 games, Nebraska has won only 13 of those contests.
Dylan Raiola's father, Dominic Raiola, played at Nebraska from 1997 to 2000 before having a long career in the NFL. He was a Rimington Trophy winner and a consensus All-American in 2000, so the Raiolas do have significant ties to Nebraska.
Will that be enough to keep Dylan Raiola in Lincoln? We'll have to wait and see on that.
