The quarterback carousel for the Cleveland Browns appears to have come to a halt, for now.
On Sunday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will get his third consecutive start in Week 14, despite the rookie losing his debut home game.
The San Francisco 49ers overwhelmed the Browns 26-8 for their ninth win of the season, while the Browns recorded their ninth loss of 2025. Sanders is now 1-1 as a starter after making his rookie debut in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he led the Browns to a 24-10 victory.
In Week 12, Sanders threw for 209 yards, one touchdown and recorded one interception. This Sunday, Sanders played slightly worse in the losing effort, throwing for 149 yards and one touchdown pass.
Still, it wasn't a dreadful performance from the rookie that held the team back. Sanders' second career touchdown pass was an on-target 34-yard touchdown pass, whereas his first touchdown pass was a short toss that running back Dylan Sampson took for 66 yards to the house.

Sanders also seemed to respond to Rex Ryan's criticisms of his leadership, in which the ex-coach-turned-ESPN-commentator said the rookie needed to take more accountability. After the loss, Sanders said, "I gotta be better overall. I gotta be able to rally everyone together when adversity is hitting."
Still, Sanders' relationship with the media continues to be a contentious one, as the rookie called out a reporter for what he felt was a leading question. When asked about Stefanski unsuccessfully going for it on two separate fourth downs with the Browns offense in their own territory, he didn't just refuse to answer; he felt the question was trying to get him to disagree with his coach.
"That's a rude question."

"First, that's a rude question to ask, if I think that was a great call by my coach," Sanders said about his coach's aggressive calls in a press conference. "I like being out there playing, so whatever that comes with it comes with. We're not gonna be here and ever point fingers at no coach or do anything like that. That's extremely disrespectful, and that's not even my place."
With Sanders being named the starter next week, he'll have to get better at addressing the media in postgame press conferences, especially with his coach not committing to him as the starter for the rest of the season.
"I'm not going to get into all that," Stefanski said when asked if Sanders would start beyond next week. "We all have to just play better."
It's possible Stefanski needs to see whether the rookie he picked in the fifth round of the draft can find a level of consistency he can work with before fully supporting Sanders. In the meantime, the spotlight will remain on Sanders' reactions to the Browns' struggles as Cleveland marches through another lost season.
