When Drake Maye left the field at Gillette Stadium on Monday night after the New England Patriots' 33-15 domination of the New York Giants, he did so hearing "MVP" chants. Maye played close to perfect football as his team won its 10th game in a row.
Continuities the extremely efficient play he's put on display all season, Maye, 23, completed 24-of-31 passes for 282 yards. He threw a pair of touchdown passes and also added 12 yards with his legs.
And while no one outside New England entered the season thinking Maye would be anywhere near the MVP conversation at this point in the season, his level of play coupled with the Patriots' team success can't denied.
With a bye week on deck and an NFL-leading 11-2 record, Maye holds a completion percentage of well over 70%, has 3,412 yards and has thrown for 23 touchdowns to only six interceptions through 13 games.

He's also been getting better as the season has progressed, throwing for at least 280 yards in each of his last three games and tossing four touchdowns to just one pick.
It's not to say that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Los Angeles Rams signal caller Matthew Stafford or even Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor aren't also worthy of consideration. Their teams wouldn't be close to contention without their stellar play. But for Maye to even be in the discussion with established household names as someone vying for the NFL's top individual award is nothing short of incredible.
And even though being named league MVP still feels like a long shot for Maye, he's certainly living up the hype and potential that led New England to draft him out of North Carolina with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a rookie, Maye threw for 2,276 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games. Now a year later with the same amount of games under his belt, he has set new career-highs and has his team at the top of the AFC.
The next challenge for Maye is to keep winning and do what Patriots fans care about above all else — win in the playoffs and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Massachusetts.
