Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo inches closer to trade request

Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the Milwaukee Bucks has always been a subject of speculation.

Superstars don't usually last long in small markets, and with the Bucks struggling to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference, the possibility of a trade always seemed realistic. Now, it might finally become a reality. According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Antetokounmpo and his camp may request a trade in the following weeks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo might request a trade

"Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent Alex Saratsis are having conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the two-time NBA MVP's future -- and discussing whether his best fit is staying or a move elsewhere. A resolution is expected in the coming weeks," reported Charania.

This comes shortly after ESPN's Brian Windhorst revealed that Antetokounmpo had already requested to be traded before the start of the season.

He reportedly wanted to be traded to the New York Knicks, although he ultimately committed to the Bucks for the season. That stance may have changed.

Antetokounmpo is averaging 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game on 63.9 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. His team, however, has fallen to 9-13 on the season, and it is currently sitting in the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Bucks were the most active team in the NBA during the offseason, parting ways with Damian Lillard and Brook Lopez and bringing in Myles Turner, but Doc Rivers' team has yet to find its stride. It may now lose arguably the greatest player in franchise history.
