Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was pulled on a key play in Sunday's home game against the Tennessee Titans. He isn't throwing a fit about that.
With 1:03 left in the fourth quarter, Sanders tossed a seven-yard touchdown to rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr., cutting Cleveland's deficit to 31-29. Despite that, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski pulled him on the two-point conversion attempt, running a trick play instead. It didn't end well for Cleveland.
Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins lined up at QB. After forgetting to pitch the ball to rookie wide receiver Gage Larvadain, he chucked a cross-field pass that fell incomplete.
Stefanski certainly deserves blame for the baffling play call, but the QB isn't pointing the finger at his coach.

"If I'm out there any play, I wish I would always have the ball in my hands, but that's not what football is," the QB said during a postgame news conference. "Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal. In any situation, of course, you would want to. But I know we practiced something, and we executed it in practice, and we just didn't seem to do it today. I would never go against what the call was or anything."
Following the loss, Stefanski admitted the play call was his idea and took responsibility for its failure. He may now wish he had run another play. Taking the ball out of Sanders' hands made little sense when he was having the best game of his rookie season.
Against Tennessee — led by fellow rookie QB Cam Ward (pick No. 1) — Sanders completed 23-of-42 passes for a season-high 364 yards and tossed three TD passes and one interception. He also ran for a seven-yard TD late in the fourth quarter. Ward, meanwhile, completed 14-of-28 passes for 117 yards, two TDs and one interception.
According to NFL+, the 144th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft became the first Browns QB with 300-plus pass yards, three-plus pass TDs and a rushing TD in a game since 1950.

Sanders may not be holding the loss against the coach, but Browns fans may. Stefanski's decision may have cost the QB what would've been one of the bigger wins of his rookie season.
