Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles to enter transfer portal

The Michigan State Spartans will be starting off the Pat Fitzgerald era in search of a new starting quarterback.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reports that Aidan Chiles will be entering the transfer portal.

Chiles is a former 4-star quarterback recruit out of Downey, California. He signed with Jonathan Smith and the Oregon State Beavers out of high school and ultimately followed Smith to Michigan State.

He's been Michigan State's starting quarterback for the past two seasons, but he'll now be looking for a new home with one year of eligibility left.

In two seasons at Michigan State, Chiles played in 21 games, throwing for 3,807 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.

He's also a bit of a dual-threat quarterback. He rushed for 452 yards and nine touchdowns over two seasons.

Aidan Chiles has intriguing potential as a transfer quarterback from Michigan State

As a freshman at Oregon State, Chiles threw for just 309 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for three touchdowns in that 2023 season.

Those feel like redshirt freshman numbers, but Smith had rotated Chiles in and out of the lineup at quarterback, so he ended up playing in nine games.

Chiles does have the potential to be an intriguing transfer portal pickup. This last season, in a game against Indiana, he completed 27-of-33 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown.

If he lands someplace with a coach who can consistently get that type of production out of him, he could potentially finish his college career on a high note.
