Just a couple of weeks ago, George Pickens' addition looked like a master move by the Dallas Cowboys.
Now, his true colors might scare Jerry Jones and the fan base away. Pickens followed his no-show against the Detroit Lions with another questionable effort in the 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and he might no longer be in the team's good graces.
Pickens finished the loss with three receptions for 33 yards. He had just one reception for 10 yards until the third quarter, and he's now up to eight catches on 15 targets for 70 yards in his past two games.
The Cowboys needed all hands on deck to bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive, and they didn't get anything from the talented second-round pick. Of course, that's not to say that he can't have a bad game now and then.
But given his long history of antics, temper tantrums and immaturity, there are legitimate reasons to be worried about giving him generational wealth in free agency. He was positive and looked happy when things were going right, but he hasn't shown the same demeanor now that the team has its back against the wall.
Watching Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers give up on such a young and talented player was telling of how much of a handful he can be. And while he has the potential to be a superstar, he's showing that he can also destroy all the great things he built in no time.
He was projected to make north of $30 million in free agency. Now, franchise-tagging him or even letting him go might be wiser solutions.
