The New York Yankees haven't done much to bolster the roster in the offseason.
They stayed put at the Winter Meetings, with GM Brian Cashman essentially stating that other teams didn't want to trade with them.
To add insult to injury, they have yet to re-sign Cody Bellinger, and while they're still in contention to do so, they don't seem willing to meet his conditions. That, plus the New York Mets' need for a big move, might make the All-Star take his talents to Queens.
In an AMA session on Reddit, MLB insider Bryan Hoch claimed that there was a realistic possibility that Bellinger doesn't sign with the Yankees:
"There's definitely a ceiling, and after seeing how last week went in Orlando, I'd brace for a real possibility that Bellinger winds up elsewhere. Certain teams (cough, cough, the Mets) are in need of an offseason splash and have shown willingness to go places others won't," Hoch wrote.
While Bellinger enjoyed his time in the Bronx, there's too much money at stake, and other teams might be more inclined to meet his aspirations.
"Bellinger liked his time with the Yankees, they've made no secret of wanting him back, but let's be realistic -- when Scott Boras says there's eight teams involved, the chances of Bellinger accepting less than top dollar to come back seems like a fantasy," he added.
Both New York teams have had disappointing offseasons so far, and it looks like it might be a long while before the World Series is back in the Big Apple.
