Five takeaways from AP Top 25 men's basketball poll

In this week's Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll, one blue blood program drops out of the top five. Here are five takeaways from the poll, which was released on Monday.

Duke drops out of top five after stunning collapse

The Blue Devils (11-1), down three spots to No. 6, suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday after allowing then-No. 19 Texas Tech to rally from 17 down to pull off the 82-81 win.

It was Duke's largest blown lead since 2007 and its first loss when leading by 15 or more points under head coach Jon Scheyer (since 2022-23). Freshman Cameron Boozer led the way again with 23 points (7-of-11 FG), eight rebounds and seven assists, but the Blue Devils allowed the Red Raiders to shoot 55% from the floor, which must be corrected going forward in an improved ACC.

Vanderbilt moves up two spots after remaining undefeated

The Commodores (12-0) are off to their longest winning streak to start a season since opening the 2007-08 season at 16-0. Up two spots to No. 11, Vanderbilt escaped with a 77-70 overtime win over Memphis and kept rolling with a 98-67 rout over Wake Forest on Sunday to stay unbeaten.

Led by senior guard Duke Miles (17.1 PPG), the Commodores score the fifth-most points in the country (94.1 PPG). While Vanderbilt has yet to face a ranked opponent this season, that kind of explosiveness has it in a great position as the only undefeated team in the SEC.

Texas Tech climbs four spots after comeback win over Duke

The Red Raiders (9-3), up four spots to No. 15, had lost each of their three games this season against ranked competition and appeared to be on their way to a fourth until the 17-point rally against Duke completely changed everything.

With guard Christian Anderson scoring 23 of his team-high 27 points in the second half and hitting the game-winning free throw with 3.4 seconds to play, Texas Tech achieved the largest comeback win by any team against an AP top-three team since 2017-18.

Louisville, Arkansas fall

The Cardinals (10-2) fall five spots to No. 16 after being held to a season-low 62 points in a blowout loss to then-No. 20 Tennessee. However, Louisville followed that up with a 94-54 rout of Montana on Saturday, which ties the Cardinals with No. 2 Michigan and Kentucky for the most wins by at least 40 points this season (four).

The Razorbacks (9-3) came out on the losing end in a 94-85 shootout with No. 8 Houston on Saturday and dropped four spots to No. 18 as a result. Darius Acuff Jr. shone once again with a career-high 27 points, becoming the first Arkansas freshman in the last 20 seasons with three straight 20-point games.

USC, Iowa enter the rankings

The Trojans (12-1) rejoin the poll at No. 24 after having four players in double-figure scoring in Sunday's 102-63 rout over UC Santa Cruz, led by junior center Gabe Dynes (16). Senior guard Chad Baker-Mazara (21 PPG) is one of four Trojans averaging at least 10 points per game, which speaks to the balance on this USC team.

The Hawkeyes (10-2) enter at No. 25 after winning each of their past two games against Western Michigan and Bucknell by a combined 95 points. Iowa has lost both of its games against ranked opponents, but its fourth-highest shooting percentage (52.9%) should keep it in a lot of games.
