Brian Flores could leave Vikings for rival NFC team

Brian Flores has won plaudits for his work as Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator, but his contract is expiring at the end of the season. That could open the door for one prominent rival to poach him.

The Dallas Cowboys are viewed as likely to make a play for Flores, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Other teams could also be interested in Flores, which could spark a bidding war for his services.

It is unclear how far the Vikings are willing to go to keep Flores. He could also be in play for head coaching openings, though that is less of a certainty.

The Vikings have excelled defensively under Flores. They are ninth in the league in points allowed this season and would almost certainly be a playoff team with better offensive play. While his temperament has been questioned, it is hard to argue with the results he has gotten.

The Cowboys still have a defensive coordinator in Matt Eberflus, but the unit has struggled all season, and he seems almost certain to lose his job. His potential replacement may come down to whether Jerry Jones is willing to be aggressive and spend big to bring in someone of Flores’ stature.
