Patriots WR Stefon Diggs grows bank account on TD catch against Jets

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is raking in bonuses.

Entering Sunday's road game against the New York Jets, Diggs needed just four receptions to earn a $500K bonus (per Spotrac co-founder Michael Ginnitti). That proved to be easy work against the AFC East rival, which has already been eliminated from playoff contention for a 15th consecutive season.

With the Patriots leading 21-3 late in the second quarter, second-year quarterback Drake Maye connected with Diggs on a screen pass, which turned into a three-yard touchdown. That was his fourth reception.

The Patriots certainly don't mind giving Diggs, who signed a three-year, $63.5M deal this offseason, his incentives. He has proved to be a worthwhile investment for the team.

How Stefon Diggs has proved to be worth the money for Patriots

When the Patriots added Diggs this offseason, it was considered a risk. He played eight games for the Houston Texans last season but suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October. And it's not a secret that he and QB Josh Allen had a tense relationship when he played for the Buffalo Bills from 2020-23.

This season, however, Diggs has stayed healthy. Just as importantly for the Patriots, the four-time Pro Bowler and Maye seem to be getting along and building chemistry.

Diggs has become the Patriots' No. 1 WR this season. Entering Week 17, he led the team in receptions (76) and receiving yards (869) and was tied for third in TD catches (three). He'll continue to play a pivotal role for the team in the postseason.

The Patriots have already clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2021. They'll need Diggs to keep rolling in the postseason to win their seventh Super Bowl. New England can count on him. Diggs, of course, has been rewarding the Patriots throughout the season.
