Has Jets owner Woody Johnson changed mind about Aaron Glenn amid disastrous season?

Back in October, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson strongly backed first-year head coach Aaron Glenn after Glenn started his tenure with seven straight losses.

That vote of confidence came long before the Jets fell to 3-13 via a disheartening 42-10 home loss to the rival New England Patriots on Sunday. Following that defeat, both Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio and Connor Hughes of SNY suggested Glenn could be in danger of losing his job on the first Monday of 2026. However, Glenn hinted after Sunday's game that he still has Johnson's support.

Aaron Glenn still has a fan in Woody Johnson?

"I do know there's a belief in me," Glenn said about Johnson, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "I do know I believe in him and that's why I'm glad I took this job is because of ownership and what he's about, what [general manager Darren Mougey] is about, and what this organization is about."

Mougey seemed to say plenty about the roster he inherited this past offseason when he acquired assets for cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams ahead of the November trade deadline. That said, a lack of talent isn't all that's been wrong with the Jets since the start of the month.

According to Cimini, the Jets' minus-107 point differential is the worst in NFL history for December. Hughes noted that the Jets looked like a team "that quit" on Sunday.

"I'm disappointed. I know he's disappointed," Glenn added about Johnson. "So now we have to figure out what do we do and make sure we get over that hump and move forward."

Aaron Glenn questioned Jets' effort after loss to Patriots

For what it's worth, Jets reporter Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic shared on Sunday night that "Glenn is not getting fired at the end of this season." One wonders what Johnson thinks about Glenn's comments regarding the Jets' effort in their home finale.

"I always talk about how we come out and we play with effort," Glenn said. "[Sunday] was probably one time I feel like our effort wasn't as good as I would want to be. And that's just me not BS-ing you guys."

Glenn will try to fire his players up ahead of the regular-season finale at the rival Buffalo Bills (11-5) on Jan. 4. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Jets as 11.5-point underdogs for that game.
