
NASCAR Cup Series superstar Denny Hamlin has broken his silence following a house fire on Dec. 28 that led to the hospitalization of his mother and the tragic death of his father, Dennis, at age 75.
Hamlin posted on social media on Wednesday afternoon for the first time since the incident to offer an update on his mother and thank those who have provided their condolences to his family.
"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with condolences on my father’s passing," Hamlin said in a social media post. "My mother continues to improve, and our family truly appreciates the outpouring of support and the respect for our privacy during this time."

Hamlin's mother, Mary Lou, was transferred to a hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, following the fire. The fire occurred at the home of Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin in the community of Stanley, N.C., in Gaston County.
Hamlin's parents have had an incredible impact on his racing career. The 60-time Cup Series winner said after his most recent win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 12 that his parents, "Certainly they got the life now that they deserved before I decided to do this."
Hamlin, a veteran of 20 Cup Series seasons, will begin his 21st season of Cup Series competition with the 67th running of the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15.
