Cowboys have four potential DC candidates to replace Matt Eberflus

The first year of the Brian Schottenheimer era was a mixed bag for the Dallas Cowboys.

The offense was well above average, and the team showed signs of promise under the first-year head coach. The defense, on the other hand, left plenty to be desired, even after trading for Quinnen Williams.

That's why Matt Eberflus' dismissal was far from surprising, especially given how much team owner/GM Jerry Jones picked on him throughout the course of the season. Now, with Schottenheimer looking to fill the position, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer firmly expects the Cowboys to go after someone with ties to former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Cowboys could target someone with ties to Dan Quinn

"Looking at Brian Schottenheimer’s background, it’d be easy to look at guys who’ve worked with Dan Quinn as fits—Schottenheimer and Quinn forged a strong relationship on Mike McCarthy’s staff," Breer wrote.

Considering that, he believes that Jeff Ulbrich and Raheem Morris, the latter of whom was recently let go by the Atlanta Falcons, might be suitable candidates.

"Along those lines, Ulbrich and Morris are available, with the idea of a run at Flores or Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia also floating out there," he added.

Whatever the case, the Cowboys must find some continuity at the position once and for all. This will be their fourth defensive coordinator in the past four years, and while they clearly have some personnel issues, they can't expect better results with this revolving door of assistant coaches.
