The struggles endured by the Philadelphia Eagles' offense throughout the regular season left fans and outsiders wondering if the defending Super Bowl champions have the goods to make another run this winter.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts shared why he's confident he and his teammates will step up on the biggest stages.
"I think experience is the biggest teacher," Hurts explained, per Bob Brookover of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "There are a lot of moments where you can lean on experience itself and not just on somebody else’s opinions...that’s valuable."
ESPN stats show that the 11-6 Eagles finished the regular season ranked 24th in the NFL with 311.2 offensive yards gained per game and 19th with an average of 22.3 points scored per contest. That said, Hurts has gone 6-2 in postseason play since January 2023. Most recently, he became the first quarterback since Joe Montana (1985) to record two-plus passing touchdowns, 50-plus rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in a Super Bowl.
"I think being able to evolve and change as much as we have and still find ways to win maybe gives off a perspective (to the opponent) of what are they going to do?" Hurts added. "Who are they? I think that’s a way you can look at it. At the end of the day, we’re not going to be judged on how we got it done. We’re going to be judged off if we did it or not, and so my focus is on doing it."
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni repeatedly defended Kevin Patullo as fans and others criticized the Philadelphia offensive coordinator throughout the fall. On Wednesday, Sirianni insisted the Eagles have been "continuing to get better" on offense leading up to the start of the postseason tournament.
The Eagles will host the 12-5 San Francisco 49ers for a wild-card playoff game on Sunday afternoon. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Philadelphia as a 4.5-point home favorite for that matchup.
