Paige Bueckers makes a worrisome admission about her offseason work

Paige Bueckers was as good as advertised in her first season in the pros.

The No. 1 pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft dominated for the struggling Dallas Wings, averaging 19.2 points, 5.4 assists and 1.1 three-pointers per game on 47/33/88 shooting splits.

However, the reigning Rookie of the Year is just getting started, and she's looking to add one not-so-positive aspect to her skillset.

When asked about the main point of emphasis on her offseason work, the UConn legend admitted that she's trying to be more of a foul-baiter.

Paige Bueckers admits she wants to work on her 'foul bait'

“I wanna work on my left hand more, and I wanna get to the free throw line more,” Bueckers told Bleacher Report. “So lowkey like, a little foul bait. But also, I wanna get the bump, the Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) shoulder bump into my midrange pull-up.”

Bueckers averaged just 4.2 free throws per game in her rookie season, so it does make some sense that she wants to be more aggressive and go to the line more often. That being said, foul-baiting might be the last thing the WNBA needs right now.

NBA fans keep complaining about the product, and with all eyes finally set on women's basketball, they need to be extremely careful not to replicate the same issues that might drive viewers away from other leagues.

Bueckers has the potential to be the best player in the world, as she showed by dropping 24 points and six assists in her Unrivaled debut.

She should continue to work on her game and add layers to the offense, but she doesn't need to turn the game into a free-throw shooting contest. We have enough of that already.
