Brewers reportedly set a steep asking price for Freddy Peralta

The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the most valuable trade assets in the league right now.

Even though he only has one year left in his contract, Freddy Peralta is a true workhorse and a proven commodity in the league.

He's also going to make just $8M next season. That's a bargain for someone who has made at least 30 starts with 200 strikeouts in three consecutive seasons.

That's why the Brewers aren't going to just give up on him. According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Brewers want a young, major-league-ready replacement in any trade for the All-Star right-hander.

New York Mets might be in a position to get Freddy Peralta from Milwaukee Brewers

Considering that, they believe that the New York Mets might be in a position to outbid any other team keeping tabs on Peralta.

"Of the clubs in the mix for Peralta, the New York Mets might be in the best position to part with a prized young arm — and they can do it without offering top prospect Nolan McLean," the report read. "Two of the Mets’ other youngsters, Brandon Sproat and Jonah Tong, reached the majors last season."

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean they will do so. They might be hesitant to give up a valuable prospect for a player who may walk away in free agency after a year.

On top of that, the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are also reportedly interested in trading for him.
