Anthony Edwards has unique reaction to game-winner against Victor Wembanyama

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards is as confident of a player as is playing today. He's also hit plenty of big shots to this point in his career.

However, he was a little surprised he even got the game-winning shot off in Sunday's win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs

"Do I got the shot? Do I drive him? I ain't ever been confused... he's so tall bro... he's a one of a kind," Edwards told reporters after the Timberwolves close 104-103 victory.

Edwards, who had 23 points in the game, sunk a shot in the closing seconds despite being guarded by the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama, who is listed as a full foot taller than the 6-foot-4 Edwards.

Unable to shoot over someone as tall as Wembanyama, Edwards managed to get around the No. 1 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft to get his team the basket it needed with under 20 seconds remaining on the clock.

But instead of bragging about his game-winner, Edwards decided to praise the player many in NBA circles refer to as an alien or unicorn for his unique build and skillset.

Edwards is amazed by Wembanyama

"He take away everything. He take away the layup, jump shot. And he got good feet. He can move," added Edwards, still in a state of disbelief by what just happened.

As for the true impact of Edwards' shot against Wembanyama, Minnesota took a major step in trying to catch the Spurs in the Western Conference standings.

Minnesota needed that win to keep pace with the Spurs

Now 26-14, Minnesota is sixth in the West, which puts them two seeds behind the 27-12 Spurs.

Edwards, 24, is averaging 28.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 33 games so far this season. In contrast, Wembanyama has a line of 24.3 points, 11.1 boards and 3.1 assists in 25 games, having to endure being in and out of the lineup due to a knee injury.

There's no sign of Edwards slowing down - he recently became only the seventh player to surpass 10,000 career points before turning 25.
