Ravens expected to advance Chargers DC Jesse Minter along in head-coaching search

The Baltimore Ravens have ramped up their pursuit of Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to be their next head coach.

The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reported on Tuesday that the Ravens are expected to invite Minter for a second round of interviews.

"Chargers DC Jesse Minter also expected to get an in-person interview with Ravens this week. He interviewed virtually on Jan. 14," Zrebiec wrote.

The Ravens recently fired former head coach John Harbaugh, who signed with the New York Giants on Saturday.

With Baltimore having interviewed several candidates on Tuesday, including Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver as well as Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, Minter is now next on the docket. He was an assistant coach with the Ravens from 2017-20.

Jesse Minter a strong candidate for Ravens' HC opening

The Arkansas native helped the Chargers (11-6) advance to the wild-card round of the 2025 NFL playoffs. Los Angeles was defeated by the New England Patriots, 16-3.

Behind Minter's play-calling, the Chargers allowed 3,314 passing yards (No. 4 in the NFL) as well as 16 receiving touchdowns (No. 3) on the year. On the ground, Los Angeles conceded 4.3 yards per carry (No. 5), proving to be an oppositional force on defense.

Baltimore needs improvement on that side of the ball, as it ended the year No. 29 in the league, allowing 4,403 passing yards. Its offense is equally pressing, with Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken actively being recruited for various coaching roles around the league.

After Baltimore failed to make the playoffs for the first time in two seasons being led by two-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson as well as former First Team All-Pro running back Derrick Henry, the Ravens could elect to hire a familiar face in Minter to man the sidelines next season.
