Rams WR Davante Adams has one word to describe a Super Bowl appearance

To Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams, a Super Bowl appearance seems as real as a dragon or even something like a unicorn.

You know what it looks like, and you can conceptualize it. Heck, sometimes you watch them on your television.

Adams has made it to five NFC Championship Games in his legendary career, though, and he's never once made it to the Super Bowl.

To him, it's almost like something you hear about in a storybook.

That's not to say he hasn't appreciated all the winning he's done along the way, and he has done a ton of winning. There is one goal for any football player, though, and Adams has been on the short end of the stick one too many times for his liking.

"Just having been here so many times and understanding exactly what it takes to get where we're ultimately trying to go," Adams said, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN, explaining why he hasn't been overly excited to pick up wins in the wild card and divisional round of the playoffs. "It's obviously exciting to achieve the minor goals along the way that you ultimately need to do to get where you want to be, but yeah, [getting to a Super Bowl] just feels like almost like a mythical thing to me at this point.

"You do everything you can to get there. It's been so hard, and [I've] been working so hard at it. So we're close. We just got to finish it off."

Davante Adams and Los Angeles Rams on the doorstep of the Super Bowl

The Rams have played two very close and tense games on the road in these playoffs. They beat the upstart Carolina Panthers, 34-31, and then beat the Chicago Bears on the road in overtime, 20-17.

They now must travel north to play the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in the title game. The last time Adams played in this big a contest in Seattle was in the 2014 NFC Championship Game. He was with the Green Bay Packers at the time and watched as his team squandered a 19-7 late fourth-quarter lead to eventually lose in overtime, 28-22.

One gets the sense that he still can't get the bad taste out of his mouth when it comes to that loss, but he does have a chance to rectify things for himself now that he's back here with the Rams.

"It's tough not to think about that one," Adams said of that NFC Championship loss. "A loss like that will last a long time. And we've got an opportunity to change that now."

Adams caught 60 passes for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns this season at 33-years-old, averaging 13.1 yards per carry. He hasn't yet scored a touchdown in these playoffs, but he has made some incredibly big plays for the Rams.

Much like this one:

After leaving Green Bay, Adams suffered in football purgatory thanks to stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.

More than anything, he seems happy to once again have a chance to win the big game.

"Being back in a position where you're with a great team and in a great situation, you definitely have a greater appreciation for times like this for sure," Adams said.
