The Dallas Cowboys have found their new defensive coordinator, and they've stolen him from one of their biggest rivals: the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cowboys announced on Thursday that Christian Parker will be their new defensive coordinator.
Parker, 34, has been the passing game coordinator and secondary coach for the Eagles for the past two seasons. He's also well-schooled by Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, thought of as one of the best defensive minds in football.
Parker and Fangio have coached together since 2021, when both were with the Denver Broncos.
"Sometimes you have to go behind enemy lines to find the solution to a problem, and [Brian] Schottenheimer is clearly unafraid of that reality," the Cowboys wrote on their website, announcing the hire of Parker. "In seeking an interview with Parker, they were doing a couple of things simultaneously: potentially weakening their most bitter division rival, and plucking from the Vic Fangio coaching tree, Fangio having often given Dak Prescott fits in their matchups."
Parker is credited with aiding in the development of Eagles cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

In Denver, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and safety Justin Simmons both became All-Pros at their respective positions with Parker as their defensive backs coach.
Parker won the job over Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator Daronte Jones and former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.
He had also interviewed with the Green Bay Packers for their vacant defensive coordinator job. Parker was on Matt LaFleur's staff back in 2019 as a quality control coach.
