The Golden State Warriors don't want to get Jonathan Kuminga on the court, at least not for big minutes. Kuminga has been vocal about his frustration with the team.
Then again, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. continues to be adamant about moving the former lottery pick, despite going as far as to lower his trade value even more by stating that no one's keeping tabs on him.
That doesn't seem to be the actual case. According to NBA insider Brandon 'Scoop B' Robinson, as many as three teams are interested in his services, including the Los Angeles Lakers.
"Rob Pelinka has reportedly 'kept an eye' on Kuminga since the offseason. While the Lakers are hunting for 3-and-D wings, Kuminga’s scoring is seen as a high-upside flier to pair alongside Luka Doncic and LeBron James," Robinson wrote.
Robinson adds that the Kings have been the frontrunners for Kuminga dating back to the offseason. The Mavs, on the other hand, have reportedly touched base with Steve Kerr's team to gauge his potential trade value.
Kuminga's situation has put the Warriors against the wall. On the one hand, the front office wants to convince other teams that he's a valuable asset with a ton of upside. On the other hand, they don't seem to feel that way about him, as he can't seem to get on the court.
Now, with Jimmy Butler out for the season, the Warriors' ability to sink or swim might hinge on whether they can get anything from Kuminga, be it on the court or as a trade asset.
As for the Lakers, they might not be his preferred destination. While they could use a 3-and-D athletic forward to help their ailing defense, Kuminga clearly wants to be heavily featured in the offense. That will rarely be the case for as long as Doncic, James and Austin Reaves are there.
