Curious update given on Patriots QB Drake Maye's right shoulder

All eyes will be on the Super Bowl injury report after concerns were raised on New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's right (throwing) shoulder on Monday.

Per an update by Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal, the Patriots do not believe that "any" injury to Maye's shoulder is believed to be an issue.

"The information that I have at this moment is that any Maye 'injury' to his throwing shoulder is not believed to be an issue," Bedard posted on X.

The update on Monday night came after a video from former San Diego Chargers team doctor David Chao went viral on social media. Chao suggested Maye suffered an injury in the third quarter of the Patriots' 10-7 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

"Drake Maye injured his right throwing shoulder against the Broncos," Chao posted on X. "How severe the injury is, and the exact diagnosis, remains to be determined. Heading into Super Bowl LX, I’m far more concerned about Maye’s shoulder than Sam Darnold’s oblique."

Injury report will tell the story on New England Patriots QB Drake Maye

The wording of Bedard's post is curious. If there isn't any injury, why would the update be that the shoulder isn't "believed" to be an issue as the Patriots prepare to play the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl?

Whatever source Bedard received his information from could have squashed Chao's theory by saying that the quarterback didn't have a shoulder injury at all.

The good news from Bedard is that New England doesn't believe the issue will have an impact when the Super Bowl is played in two weeks. However, it's a situation to keep an eye on until the initial injury report is released.

Maye had a pedestrian outing through the air on Sunday. The snowy conditions at Mile High in the second half didn't help the 2024 No. 3 pick. He finished 10-of-21 passing for 86 yards. Maye made an impact with his legs, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown.
