Statistic shows why Team Penske should be favored in the Daytona 500

Team Penske Fords are usually fast at Daytona, and drivers Joey Logano, Austin Cindric and Ryan Blaney can usually be found at the front of the field during superspeedway races.

But it's not just the eye test that favors the Penske trio going into the 68th running of the Daytona 500 on Feb. 15.

Numbers, as they say, don't lie. And the arithmetic is in favor of Cindric, Logano and Blaney at Daytona.

What the numbers say

Per NASCAR Insights, Cindric (13.8), Logano (16.1) and Blaney (16.3) have the second, sixth and seventh best average finishes in the Daytona 500 among active drivers.

Cindric, Logano and Blaney combined to lead 125 laps in the 2025 edition of the "Great American Race," but the race win went to William Byron. Penske's last Daytona 500 triumph came with Cindric in 2022. Logano won the race in 2015, while Blaney is still looking for his first Harley J. Earl trophy.

Logano (+1000), Blaney (+1100) and Cindric (+1300) are currently the top three drivers in regard to Daytona 500 odds, per CBS Sports.

Cindric's 2022 victory largely props up his average finish in the race, as his only other top-10 in five Daytona 500 start was an eighth-place result in 2025. He finished 15th in his Daytona 500 debut in 2021.

Logano scored his only Daytona 500 win so far in 2015 and has five top-10 results in the last 10 renditions of the race.

Blaney has been to Daytona's hallowed victory lane twice, but both of those wins came in the summer race at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. As good as he is at Daytona and Talladega, Blaney is yet to win the 500 — though he does have six top-10 finishes in his 10 starts, including a heartbreaking loss to Cindric in 2022.

If the Penske trio can simply survive for 199 laps, it's a good bet that at least one of them will be up front battling for the win in NASCAR's biggest race.
