In the 2021 NBA draft, the Brooklyn Nets used the 27th overall pick to select Cam Thomas. Over five seasons, Thomas appeared in 239 games and made 88 starts for Brooklyn. Following the trade deadline on Feb. 5, the Nets released him.
The 24-year-old did not have to wait long to find his next team. On Sunday, the Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a deal with Thomas, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
What will Thomas' role look like with his new team?
Following failed contract negotiations with the Nets, Thomas signed a one-year, $5.9M qualifying offer with the team for 2025-26. He was not part of Brooklyn's long-term future, and it was evident. He missed 20 consecutive games for the Nets this season with a hamstring injury. The fifth-year pro played in 24 games and made eight starts.

When Brooklyn could not find a trade partner for Thomas last week, the Nets decided to release the young shooting guard. This gave him a fresh start. Milwaukee has decided to take a chance on Thomas.
“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they’ve been interested for years now. So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody and contribute as soon as possible.”

With Milwaukee, Thomas has the chance to be a serious contributor for head coach Doc Rivers. At his best, Thomas is a legitimate three-level scorer in the NBA. He can be a spark off the bench for the Bucks and even work his way into a starting role.
After signing with the Bucks, Thomas spoke exclusively with Andscape and gave his reasoning for choosing Milwaukee.
"I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they've been interested for years now," Thomas said. "So, it's good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I'm just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody and contribute as soon as possible."
