The New England Patriots rolled the dice with a somewhat controversial first-round pick.
Offensive lineman Will Campbell dominated at LSU, but some of his measurements drew concerns about his ability to hold his ground in the pros. A full season has gone by, and while he showed some flashes here and there, his postseason performances left plenty to be desired, especially in the Super Bowl.
As pointed out by Jack Andrade of NFL Network & NFL Media, he had one of the worst performances in recent playoff history.
"Next Gen Stats attributed 14 QB Pressures Allowed to Will Campbell in Super Bowl LX - the most pressures allowed by any player in a game this season (including playoffs)," Andrade wrote on X.
If that wasn't bad enough, the 2025 No. 4 pick left Levi's Stadium without addressing the media, prompting even more criticism after his subpar performance. The Seattle Seahawks sacked QB Drake Maye a whopping six times in Super Bowl LX. That took his postseason total to 21 sacks in just four games, the most in NFL history.
Of course, it's never wise to count out a player after his rookie season, and Campbell did show some flashes. Then again, even though some things simply cannot be measured, tackles with short arms usually don't do well or last long in the National Football League. If anything, the Patriots might at least consider a Plan B to make sure Maye has a reliable blindside protector next season.
