Joey Logano has a trophy to take home and another win at Daytona in his pocket after his win in the first of two qualifying races at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday ahead of Sunday's Daytona 500.
He's also tied for the points lead with Duel 2 winner Chase Elliott, as the winner of each duel race receives 10 championship points.
"It's a start," Logano said jokingly in his post-race news conference.
Logano will try for his second Daytona 500 victory on Sunday. But in order to get it, he'll have to be aggressive, as every driver has to be at superspeedways. That includes throwing big blocks and giving big pushes in the draft.
But there might be one big problem with the latter.
"Everyone’s push-ability seems awful," Logano said. "I didn’t see any car that was taking a push that was, like, comfortable on the straightaways. A lot of cars were just squirrelly, right? I haven’t watched replays yet, but all the wrecks happened on the straightaway. I’m assuming that’s from pushes more times than not. I’m assuming everyone’s push-ability is weak."
While there weren't any accidents in Duel 2, there were a pair in Duel 1. Both of those wrecks started with a push gone wrong that led to the car receiving the push spinning.
"That’s everyone not racing for the Daytona 500," Logano said. "Say a prayer. It’s going to be crazy."
At the very least, Logano will have a good view for the start of Sunday's race. He'll start third behind polesitter Kyle Busch and second-place qualifier Chase Briscoe.
