Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs were on the road Wednesday evening vs. the Golden State Warriors, in which the Spurs walked away with a 126-113 win.
That was San Antonio's sixth consecutive win, improving its record to 38-16, second in the Western Conference. Ahead of its game on Wednesday, the Spurs front office made a slight change to the roster.
ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that San Antonio released Jeremy Sochan. The 22-year-old is now a free agent.
With the ninth pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Spurs selected Sochan out of Baylor. Sochan had a unique path compared to other athletes who enter the league. He played professionally overseas as a teenager before he attended college.
In his first two seasons with San Antonio, Sochan was a full-time starter. His starting role diminished in 2024-25 and again in 2025-26. He had fallen out of the rotation for the Spurs this season. That led to Sochan's release on Wednesday.
Sochan played nearly four seasons for the Spurs, appearing in 212 games and making 149 starts. In 2025-26, Sochan played in 28 of the team's 53 games before his release.
Following the 2025-26 trade deadline, the Sixers have 13 standard contracts on their roster. They have two open spots for the remainder of the year. Is Sochan a player the 76ers are interested in?
Sochan would be a rotational player at best for the 76ers. The team signed Dominick Barlow to a standard deal. He's made 36 starts for the team this season. With his play style, Sochan could be a productive PF for Philadelphia.
At the trade deadline, the Bulls were an active team. The Chicago roster is piled with guards and could certainly use some size down low. Would the team consider signing Sochan to a standard NBA contract?
Sochan would sign a veteran's minimum deal if he landed with the Bulls or 76ers. It's worth noting that the Bulls traded for players with high upside. That includes Anfernee Simons and Rob Dillingham. Does Sochan fit that same mold? If the Bulls think so, they might pursue him as a free agent.
