Bad Bunny has already left his mark on the NFL thanks to his performance at the Super Bowl LX halftime show. Now he tried to leave his mark on the world of professional baseball.
It did not go as smoothly.
Instead of doing any sort of a performance, the Grammy Award-winning music artist made an effort to get Houston Astros infielder Carlos Correa into the World Baseball Classic by offering to pay for an insurance policy for him.
Correa is not playing for Puerto Rico in the tournament due to a lack of insurance coverage on his contract.
With WBC games set to be played in Puerto Rico during next month's tournament, Bad Bunny, who is also from Puerto Rico, attempted to step up to the plate to get the star infielder into the tournament.
The problem — nobody was willing to allow Correa to go along with it.
Major League Baseball, the Astros and Correa's agent (Scott Boras) all refused to get their approval for Bad Bunny's offer, mostly due to the unnamed provider he was offering.
According to the Associated Press (via ESPN), Correa said he could not go through with it when several people he trusted were telling him not do to it.
"It means a lot that he's that involved," Correa said. "He tried to do everything possible. I wanted to play and make sure that I was going to go out there and play for Team Puerto Rico in Puerto Rico. The fact that he did that means a lot in how much he cares for the country, how much he cares for the fans back home. I'm deeply grateful that he tried that hard. ... I could not sign my life away with something that three people that I trust are telling me not to do."
Correa is playing on a $200 million contract that runs through the end of the 2028 season. He has spent the bulk of his career with the Astros, but also briefly spent time with the Minnesota Twins for three-and-a-half seasons before getting traded back to Houston during the 2025 season.
The World Baseball Classic begins on March 5 and runs through March 17. This will be the sixth World Baseball Classic since 2006 when the tournament was first introduced. It is the first tournament since 2023 when Japan defeated the United States.
