Flexing their muscles, the San Antonio Spurs beat the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons on Monday night. The win extended the Spurs' win streak to nine games.
And as expected, Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs to a 114-103 win with his strong play on both ends of the court. Wembanyama didn't lead his team in scoring, as Devin Vassell had 28, but he recorded a double-double for the third straight game.
Wembanyama scored 21 points in 36 minutes while also adding 17 rebounds, four assists, six big blocks and a steal, doing a little bit of everything to help San Antonio secure their 41st victory of the season.
Wembanyama's imposing defense set up offense as well, most notably when his monster block above the cylinder led to a Stephon Castle three in the third quarter.

"This is a basket in about 99% of NBA games," was even said about Wembanyama using his incredible reach to get to the ball on the Peacock broadcast.

In the middle of his third season, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft is averaging a double-double for the season with 24.2 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 34 games played so far. He's also averaging 2.8 blocks per game.
Monday night's performance showed why Wembanyama has a case as being the most dominant player in basketball when healthy.
Now only 2.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top spot in the entire Western Conference, Wembanyama will be able to put his skills on display in the postseason for the first time. And based on how he's played lately and the depth of the team around him, the Spurs could be poised to make a run.
