The New York Jets currently have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Jets have a ton of needs, but the consistent pick if you're a mock draft-watcher is edge-rusher.
New York is likely to miss out on Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who will likely go No. 1 overall. If not a quarterback, a pass-rusher brings the best value and the most impact in the top five of a draft, so it makes sense that many project the Jets to go in that direction.
Throw in the fact that head coach Aaron Glenn is a defensive-minded coach, and it's almost guaranteed.
Many believe that Ohio State Buckeyes pass-rusher Arvell Reese will be New York's selection at No. 2 overall, but an intriguing name has all of a sudden popped onto the radar at the 2026 NFL Draft Scouting Combine.
That would be Texas Tech Red Raiders pass-rusher David Bailey, who was recently mocked to the Jets by Bucky Brooks of NFL.com

On the very same day the Brooks dropped his mock draft, the Jets website did a feature on Bailey, so there's something in the water.
He's a player who has "risen the charts," and the "Jets may have interest" in him, according to team writer Randy Lange.
Bailey is a big-time pass-rusher who checks in at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds. He notched 14.5 sacks last season for the Red Raiders. Before that, in three seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, he put up a combined 14.5 sacks.
That's 29 sacks over four seasons, and that's not to mention the 163 tackles (106 solo), three forced fumbles and three passes defended.
Bailey believes he's a unique pass-rusher, but even at his height and weight, he thinks his "super power" is his athleticism.
"I think it's my athletic ability and just my pass-rushing ability — not too many people can get to the quarterback consistently," he said at the combine when asked why he's one of the top pass-rushers in this draft class (per Lange). "We have great edge rushers in this draft class, for sure, but I think it's just my overall athletic ability."
It would not be surprising if Reese from OSU was the pick at No. 2 for the Jets, but it's time to start keeping an eye on Bailey.
Notably, Brooks has Reese going No. 4 overall to the Tennessee Titans.
