Dan Orlovsky leaves no doubt why he believes Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love is the 'best player in the draft'

As the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh (April 23-25) quickly approaches, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza No. 1 overall.

While that is the overall consensus according to Tankathon's latest mock draft, Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love has greatly improved his stock following an impressive performance at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis over the weekend.

While the RB position has lost some of its luster in recent years, Love is definitely worth taking a chance on for a team in search of some backfield help. When asked who he believes is the best player in the draft on Monday's edition of ESPN's "Get Up," former player and current analyst Dan Orlovsky did not hesitate.

Dan Orvlosky is confident in Jeremiyah Love's ability

"Jeremiyah Love, the running back from Notre Dame. This young man put on an absolute show when it comes to physical talent and athletic ability at the combine," Orlovsky said. "To me, his size and to run 4.36 coming off of his performance in his career at Notre Dame. I know he's not gonna go No. 1 overall. That is more than likely going to be Fernando Mendoza, but when it comes to the best player in the draft, that's Jeremiyah Love."

Love is coming off a historic season at Notre Dame in 2025. He rushed for 1,372 yards and tied the program record with 18 TDs on the ground to go along with 21 combined TDs, which were good for the most in Fighting Irish history.

In addition to being a Heisman Trophy finalist, Love also became the first Notre Dame player to win the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top RB. A top-10 pick is certainly not out of the question for a player projected to go No. 9 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs, but if teams are taking note of his on-field success and combine performance, they should not think twice about drafting him inside the top five.

Love was part of the fastest group ever at the combine, with his 4.36-second time only trailing Arkansas' Mike Washington Jr. (4.33). He may not have been the fastest at his position, but with several of the top teams in the draft order in need of RB help, it would not be a surprise if one of them goes with Love.

While teams like the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, which hold the No. 3 and No. 4 picks, respectively, have multiple positions to address, both were at the bottom of the league in rushing yards last season and could certainly use someone of Love's caliber.

In a draft class dominated by defensive players, it is by no means certain that Love jumps into the top five. However, with the versatility he brings to the field and his elite speed, Love's upside may be too much for one team to pass up.
