Darius Garland is still finding his footing with the Los Angeles Clippers after coming over from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the James Harden trade. The Clippers brought him in expecting him to run the pick-and-roll and make smart decisions.
Through two games, he's already made some clutch plays down the stretch. Wednesday gave him his first taste of Crypto.com Arena as a Clipper, and he put together a solid outing in a 130-107 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Garland finished with 12 points and eight assists in 24 minutes, helping Los Angeles notch its third straight victory. Now comes the adjustment period, particularly learning how to play alongside Kawhi Leonard, a two-time NBA champion who's been carrying a heavy load.
Garland opened up about his approach when sharing the floor with Leonard, per Joey Linn, and how he is focused on making life easier for the veteran star.
"Let Kawhi go be Kawhi, bro. Try to get him some open shots in transition. Try to do everything so he won't get double-teamed. All the stuff he's been going through this year. Basically, his whole career...Then if he needs a break I can try to make a play for someone else or make a play for myself."

Leonard has been doing what he always does this season, averaging 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 47 games. Garland's role will be centered around keeping the offense flowing and taking pressure off Leonard's shoulders.
His playmaking fits that perfectly. He's dished out at least six assists per game in each of the last six seasons, so setting up teammates is second nature. That should open up cleaner looks across the roster.
Garland can score too. He has averaged 18.5 points per game for his career while shooting 38.6 percent from three-point range. As he gets more comfortable in Los Angeles, expect him to balance running the offense with finding his own opportunities.
