New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo became a fan favorite during his rookie season for his hard-nosed running style and his fun-loving personality.
However, his campaign ended prematurely when he suffered a gruesome dislocation of his right ankle during the Giants' Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 26, 2025.
During a Wednesday appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," Skattebo spoke about his ongoing injury recovery.
"I'm getting better," Skattebo explained, per Megan Armstrong of Newsweek. "I ran for the first time today at about 75 percent, so it's the bright side of things."
Skattebo previously revealed that he had spoken with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, who went down with a dislocated and broken ankle in Week 6 of the 2025 season. It seems those conversations were helpful, as Skattebo confirmed on Wednesday he "absolutely" will be good to go for training camp practices in July.
"Not very fast, I'll tell you that," Skattebo said about being at 75 percent. "I can get away from, like, a baby hippo, maybe. That's about it. A little bit over a job. Kind of just striding out, not exploding yet, and getting into that part of the game, but the jog and the striding."
The Giants' biggest offseason acquisition was the hiring of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh as their new head coach. According to John Flanigan of SNY, Skattebo said on Wednesday that he has spoken with Harbaugh about the 24-year-old's role in the Giants' offense next season
"He sees the way I play the game, and he told me he respects the way I run the ball -- the offense he’s implementing is obviously downhill running, and I think it’s perfect for the type of back that I am," Skattebo said about his chats with Harbaugh. "Obviously, they had Derrick Henry in Baltimore, but if they didn’t have a running back, I wouldn’t be surprised if they came and got me -- so I’m glad that he’s here and I’m a part of this because it’s going to be fun."
Before Giants fans can dream of their favorite team having Derrick Henry 2.0 in the backfield, Skattebo will first need to be fully cleared for football-related activities later this year. The good news for Big Blue is that it sounds like Skattebo is on track to be in the lineup for the 2026 regular-season opener.
