Blue Jays valuable prospect a depth outfield option this season

Upside potential of Yohendrick Pinango

The 23-year-old is known for his abilities as a corner outfielder. But he has also showcased power with 15 bombs in 2025. And his performance in the Venezuelan Winter League was hard to ignore. Across 24 games, he sported a .363 batting average with a .444 batting average and a 1.159 OPS. 

The Blue Jays acquired Pinango in 2024 from the Chicago Cubs, and the trade has shown he's a strong prospect. Pinango spent 2025 playing in Double-A and Triple-A, recording a 20.1% strikeout rate and a 13.1% walk rate. 

While he needs to improve his defense, he has recently showcased how he can deliver more stable power as well as patience at the plate. This has been backed up by his solid walk and strikeout rate. 

While he is not a part of the 40-man roster this season, he is recognized for his strong efforts as an outfield depth option that would mesh well with the Blue Jays players.

It will be a tough competition, as the Blue Jays have several depth pieces in the outfield. In left field, Pinango would be up against Nathan Lukes, Jonathan Clase and Davis Schneider. 

While Pinango has experience in both right and left, he is better suited in left as his arm strength is another area where he lacks expertise. 

Lukes is likely to be a platoon in left field this season, following a strong performance last season. But Pinango still has an opportunity for a call-up this season, as Lukes also spent significant time in right field last season.
