Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s success in WBC a positive omen for 2026 season

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s success in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and his consistency with his high-level performance could be a positive omen for the 2026 MLB season.

In the opening games of the 2026 WBC, Guerrero continued his elite form from the 2025 postseason, hitting .500 with two home runs and seven RBI in his first few games for the Dominican Republic.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s past success and its connection with 2026

During a 2025 playoff run for the Toronto Blue Jays, he was the rhythm of the team offensively and a potential ALCS MVP. With this in mind, he has unleashed a new level of dependability, looking to provide that hot streak during the 2026 regular season.

Alongside a strengthened rotation and a strong outfield, the Blue Jays will also have an improved bullpen with the addition of Tyler Rogers, alongside Mason Fluharty, who had a solid rookie season.

Overall, Guerrero's 2026 WBC performance works as a kickstart for the regular season. His high-level play will provide a strong start to the MLB season for the Blue Jays despite not participating in camp. He's still getting ready to break out alongside teammate Daulton Varsho, who hit two home runs against the Minnesota Twins on Friday.

All in all, Guerrero will be turning 27 on March 16, which means he will be entering a prime season. He is entering the peak of his career and coming off a 2025 campaign where he established himself as an elite performer in both the regular season and particularly the playoffs.

Guerrero had a historic 2025 postseason for the Blue Jays, batting .397 with 29 hits, eight home runs and 15 RBI across 18 games. The Dominican cornerstone hitter who offers top-tier exit velocity set the MLB record for OPS in a single postseason (1.289).

He offers elite offensive production, so there's a motive behind the Blue Jays signing him to a 14-year, $500M deal. Guerrero has hit 30 or more home runs in three seasons of his career, and he looks on pace to make that a fourth this season.

Following a heart-wrenching 2025 World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Guerrero will be looking to get the Blue Jays back to World Series contention.
