Zion Williamson hit a massive milestone during Friday’s game

Zion Williamson has been known more for his injury problems than for his on-court exploits, but he managed to hit a pretty important milestone on Friday.

Williamson played in his 51st game of the season Friday when his New Orleans Pelicans faced the Atlanta Hawks. By hitting that mark, the forward guaranteed himself $8.4 million in guaranteed money for next season.

51 games may not seem like much, but it’s a significant mark for Williamson. He had only done it twice before in his seven-year NBA career, as assorted injuries have kept him off the court more often than not. Plus, his salary for next season was completely non-guaranteed at the start of the season, so this will come as a relief to him.

Williamson is averaging 21.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game this season. The Pelicans have struggled, but this season can probably be counted as a success for him just by playing through it.

On the other hand, Williamson probably won’t want to remember how that game ended for him.
