Former Miami quarterback Carson Beck has taken a pre-draft visit with a very interesting team.
The Pittsburgh Steelers met with Beck on Tuesday in a pre-draft visit, according to Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers also met with Beck at the NFL Combine, suggesting their interest is serious.
Beck was once seen as a potential first-round pick, but is now regarded as more likely to wind up going on the second day of the draft. That could suit the Steelers nicely. They still do not have a clear long-term plan at the position, though they did select Will Howard in the sixth round last season.
Beck threw 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for Miami last season and led them to an appearance in the national championship game. He has faced questions about his arm strength, but has been a consistent winner in college with both Miami and Georgia.
Howard and Mason Rudolph are the only two quarterbacks on Pittsburgh’s roster at the moment. However, there does appear to be a very real chance that Aaron Rodgers returns for one more season. Even so, that would not nullify Pittsburgh’s drastic need for a long-term solution at the position.
