Another World Baseball Classic, another agonizing end to Team USA’s campaign. The silver medals Kyle Schwarber and Team USA received after losing to Venezuela on Tuesday at loanDepot Park in Miami, Fla., simply don’t sparkle like gold and serve as a reminder of the mission they fell short of.
After receiving his silver medal following the 3-2 loss to Venezuela, Team USA designated hitter Schwarber was caught on camera taking it off before he could even disappear into the dugout.
Here’s a clip that shows Schwarber removing the medal from his neck.

At the same time, what Schwarber did also proved how seriously he and Team USA took the World Baseball Classic.
The Americans wanted redemption after losing to Japan in the championship game of the 2023 edition of the WBC, and this time around, they brought along the big bats of Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper and Schwarber. But even having that incredible trio was not enough to win Team USA the gold.
Schwarber’s frustration can also be attributed to his ugly performance when his team needed his offense the most, as he went 0-for-3 and struck out three times against Venezuela.
Overall in the tournament, Schwarber hit .320/.469/.440 with a home run and three RBI.
