New Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks drama report won't silence trade rumors

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn't played since he suffered a left knee hyperextension in his club's 134-123 win over the Indiana Pacers on March 15.

It appears that whether or not Antetokounmpo will suit up for the Bucks again this season could become yet another drama-filled storyline regarding the 31-year-old with an uncertain future.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks "at odds" about possibly shutting star player down

On Wednesday afternoon, Eric Nehm of The Athletic revealed that "Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are at odds over whether the two-time league MVP should finish out Milwaukee’s 14 remaining games."

The 28-40 Bucks ended Tuesday's NBA action 6.5 games back of the Charlotte Hornets in the battle for the Eastern Conference's final play-in spot. According to Nehm, the Bucks believe it is "in their shared interest" if Antetokounmpo remains sidelined for the foreseeable future. However, Antetokounmpo allegedly "has informed the team he has no desire to cut his season short" amid Milwaukee's clear desire to "tank" the rest of the campaign with the franchise's long-term future in mind.

Will this latest saga impact Giannis Antetokounmpo's relationship with the Bucks?

Earlier this winter, stories linked Antetokounmpo with the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. He ultimately stayed with the Bucks through the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, and he later insisted that he was "committed" to playing for the club.

That said, Antetokounmpo could become an unrestricted free agent after next season if he declines the player option attached to his contract. Most reporters and analysts expected he would once again become the subject of numerous trade rumors this summer even before Nehm noted that Antetokounmpo has "firmly rebuffed" the idea of voluntarily sitting out the remainder of Milwaukee's games this spring.

"While it remains to be seen whether this disagreement leads to Antetokounmpo returning to the floor soon, the opposing beliefs from both parties about how to move forward are worth watching closely with a pivotal offseason rapidly approaching," Nehm added.

In short, somebody clearly wants it known that Antetokounmpo is once again not thrilled with his situation in Milwaukee.
