On a day where one-seed 1-seed Duke nearly lost to 16-seed Siena and 5-seed Wisconsin lost to 12-seed High Point, 4-seed Arkansas wasted no time getting down to and taking care of business in a 97-78 win against 13-seed Hawaii in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Razorbacks opened the game on an 11-0 run and saw their lead balloon to 26-7 before the Rainbow Warriors slowly began making shots and climbing their way back into the game.
But the closest Arkansas allowed Hawaii to get for the rest of the game was nine points. The Hogs led 54-36 at halftime and maintained that large lead throughout the second half.
The victory is the 60th for Arkansas head coach John Calipari in the NCAA Tournament.
"Here's what the committee didn't know: We play good in the afternoon or they would've had us this evening," Calipari told CBS Sports. "The kids performed. To come out and play how they played, pretty good stuff."
While UA big men Trevon Brazile (19 points, six rebounds) and Malique Ewin (16 points, 12 rebounds, six assists) played a huge role in the win, it was the freshman backcourt of Arkansas that stole the show.

In their first NCAA Tournament game, SEC Player of the Year Darius Acuff Jr. (24 points, seven assists) and his partner in crime in Meleek Thomas (21 points, eight rebounds, five assists) combined for 45 points. Thomas appeared to injure his knee in the second half and limped to the bench, but later returned to the game.
"They have otherworldly confidence," Calipari said of Acuff and Thomas. "They could both run for president one day."
"It was a back and forth game for a little while," Acuff said. "We knew he to fight to the end."
After Hawaii put together an 8-0 run to get the game within 15 with 3:30 to play, Thomas buried a corner three to put the contest on ice.
Unlike some of their NCAA Tournament peers, Razorbacks didn't overlook their opening round opponent on Thursday. A round of 32 tussle with High Point awaits Saturday, with a win giving Calipari his second Sweet 16 appearance in as many years at Arkansas and sending the Razorbacks to their fifth Sweet 16 in six seasons.
