Friday marked the first full day of the women's NCAA Tournament. Although the Cinderella stories and buzzer-beaters you would expect this time of year were nonexistent, there were still plenty of notable achievements and close calls.
Here are winners and losers from the first full day of the tournament.
The Horned Frogs cruised to an 86-40 win over the 14-seed UC San Diego, and the senior added some impressive accolades to her resume.
With 12 points, 16 rebounds and 14 assists, she became the first player with NCAA Tournament triple-doubles for two teams after accomplishing the same feat with Notre Dame in 2022. The 14 assists set a single-game program record.

On a day where the favorites dominated, the 12th-seeded Rams nearly pulled off the stunner against five-seed Michigan State. Sophomore guard Brooke Carlson put it all on the line with 26 points (8-of-17 FG), but a missed three from senior guard Hannah Ronsiek at the end of regulation sealed the 65-62 loss to the Spartans.
The two-seed Tigers were expected to easily handle business against the 15-seed Jacksonville on Friday, and that is exactly what they did in a 116-58 thrashing. Led by senior guard Flau'jae Johnson's 20 points (7-of-14 FG), LSU tied the NCAA women's tournament record with seven players in double-figures.
Tennessee's season was defined by off-court issues and an inconsistent stretch that included eight straight losses and 11 in its last 13 games. After a poor shooting night (24-of-73) and a career-high 30 points from NC State's Zamareya Jones, the Lady Vols' season ended with a 76-61 first-round loss to the seventh-seeded Wolfpack.
The senior only had 13 points (4-of-14 FG) in five-seed Ole Miss' 81-66 win over 12-seed Gonzaga, but there was more to her performance than just that. That was her 33rd game of the season with double-digit points, which is the most in a season in program history.
Upsets are not nearly as common in the women's game as they are for the men, but you would expect at least one under-seeded team to pull off the upset. While Nebraska, Colorado State, Green Bay and Villanova either lost by single-digits or took the lead into the fourth quarter in 14-seed Green Bay's case, it was all chalk in Friday's first-round action. Don't expect that to last, though.
The six-seed Bears entered the first round as a team on upset alert against the 11th-seed Nebraska, fresh off its First Four win against Richmond. Nebraska's Britt Prince had a game-high 27 points (8-of-19 FG), but it was not enough as Baylor outscored the Cornhuskers, 26-15, in the fourth quarter and grinded out the 67-62 win.
One last winner of Day 1 was the seven-seed Texas Tech, which held off 10-seed Villanova in a 57-52 win. The Red Raiders were not as sharp down the stretch after a 19-0 start to the season, but the win over the Wildcats is the program's first in the NCAA Tournament since 2005.
