Veteran NFL wide receiver and current free agent Odell Beckham Jr. recently made it known he'd welcome a return to a New York Giants team that features young quarterback Jaxson Dart and that lost Wan'Dale Robinson to the Tennessee Titans this offseason.
During Wednesday's edition of the WFAN show he co-hosts, Giants icon and current NFL analyst Tiki Barber campaigned against the club re-signing Beckham this offseason.
"This Giant team is young, and it needs young veterans," Barber explained, per NJ Advance Media. "It doesn’t need old veterans."
Beckham will turn 34 years old this coming November and hasn't played in a regular-season game since Dec. 8, 2024. While with the Miami Dolphins during that campaign, he recorded just nine receptions for 55 yards.
"When was the last time he took a hit and did the violent physical cutting that it takes to be an elite wide receiver in this game?" Barber continued while making his point about Beckham.
Beckham became a fan-favorite as he earned three Pro Bowl nods while playing for the Giants from 2014 up until he was traded to the Cleveland Browns following the 2018 season. WFAN show co-host Evan Roberts is among those who think there's no harm in recently hired Giants head coach John Harbaugh seeing if Beckham has anything left in the tank, but Barber seems to feel the juice isn't worth the squeeze in this instance.
"You don’t need the unintended circus that will come with the idea of Odell-watch the entire month of August," Barber said about the potential distraction that Beckham's presence would cause.
Outside of Beckham's comments, there's no indication that the Giants will seriously consider offering him even a chance to make the roster later this year. Perhaps that will change if Big Blue misses out on a receiver target or two during the upcoming draft or if somebody goes down with an injury before the regular season gets underway in September.
