Braylon Lane has opportunities to play college football just about anywhere in the country.
He's got an offer list with nearly 20 schools asking for his commitment. From Arizona State to San Diego State. From Auburn to Missouri, Lane absolutely has his opportunities.
And to be fair, he still has those opportunities. Commitments at this stage in the game are verbal only. We've even seen players get out of signing with a school, so anything can — and does — happen on the college football recruiting trail.
In the here and now, though, Lane, a three-star wide receiver from Houston, Texas, has decided to stay near home to play college football.
He committed to the Houston Cougars on Tuesday.
Arkansas, Iowa State, Kansas, TCU and Mississippi State were also in the running for his commitment.

“What really excites me about Houston Cougars football is the opportunity to stay home and represent my city while playing at a high level,” Lane told Sam Spiegelman of Rivals about his decision.
Lane is a lanky wideout at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. He's ranked as the No. 111 wide receiver in the 2027 class, but he's got plenty of upside.
He's notched 542 yards and eight touchdowns across his sophomore and junior seasons in high school while playing for one of the top programs in Texas at C.E. King High School.
The chance to stay close to home was just too good to pass up, per Lane.
“Being from Houston, it means a lot to have my family and community able to support me every step of the way," he said. "The energy around the program and the way they’re building something special is something I want to be a part of.”
The Cougars went 10-3 last season in their third Big 12 campaign. Head coach Willie Fritz has now landed his fourth 2027 commitment.
