Dawn Staley says she'll address Geno Auriemma in due time

The South Carolina Gamecocks had to wait a full year to get back at Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies.

Dawn Staley's team took down her nemesis, giving her a chance to win her fourth national championship with the program. However, her heated postgame exchange with Auriemma may have stolen the spotlight from what actually mattered, at least in the eyes of the fans and the media.

That's why she wants to make sure that she and her team are focused on what's actually important, and everything else can wait.

Dawn Staley is focusing on the task at hand

"At some point everything is going to be addressed," Staley said, per Bob McManaman of AZ Central. "Today, this weekend, won't be one of them."

Staley then listed two reasons why she won't allow Auriemma's sideline antics to rattle her in such a crucial moment in her career.

"One, I had a praying mother, right?" Staley explained. "Two, I grew up in the projects of north Philly, right? Philly, 215, 267 area code. So, nothing, nothing can derail us, or me, from staying with the task at hand. There are a lot of distractions that are placed in your life. You either going to address them and let it overcome or you stick with the task at hand. I'm choosing to stick to the task at hand."

Staley is already a women's basketball legend, but she's looking at an opportunity to join a very exclusive list. A win over the UCLA Bruins on Sunday can make her just the fourth coach in women's NCAA DI history to win at least four championships, joining Kim Mulkey (four, LSU/Baylor), Pat Summitt (eight, Tennessee) and, ironically, Geno Auriemma (12, UConn).
