While multiple reports have suggested that New York Giants head coach/true head of football operations John Harbaugh doesn't plan to part ways with Dexter Lawrence II this spring, the fact that Lawrence went public with a trade request earlier this week continues to spark rumors regarding the defensive tackle's future.
For a piece published on Friday, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US shared that multiple league executives think the Green Bay Packers could be willing to make the Giants a tasty offer for Lawrence.
In late August 2025, the Packers sent the Dallas Cowboys two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to land star pass-rusher Micah Parsons. Thus, Green Bay's top two picks in the upcoming draft are No. 52 and No. 84.
NFL insider Connor Hughes of SNY previously reported that the Giants may want "a late 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, or a second-and fifth-round pick" in return for Lawrence. La Canfora has been led to believe that Green Bay may be willing to match such an asking price while Parsons recovers from the season-ending torn ACL he suffered this past December.
This past fall, the New York Jets traded defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to Dallas for the Cowboys' first-round pick in 2027, a second-round pick in 2026 and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
"I seriously doubt they trade Lawrence unless someone offers at least the Quinnen deal," one executive said about the Giants while speaking with La Canfora. "But that’s unlikely because Lawrence expects a new contract with the trade, and he’s coming off an average year for him, and Williams came over in-season and didn’t get a new deal."
Lawrence reportedly wants a pay raise compared to the salaries attached to the four-year, $90M contract extension he signed in the spring of 2023. If the Giants are unwilling to give him the type of deal he wants, trading him to a buyer such as the Packers could be a good piece of business for a team that needs draft assets for its ongoing roster restructuring.
