The Chicago White Sox are reportedly set to take the next step in their rebuilding process.
Elijah Evans of Just Baseball reported that the White Sox are set to promote pitcher Noah Schultz to the majors. He will reportedly make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Rays.
A consensus top-100 prospect since 2024, Schultz is regarded as the White Sox's second-best prospect. A 6-foot-10 lefty, he is considered to have a plus fastball that sits in the mid 90s and has been clocked as high as 98 MPH and a double-plus two-plane slider. A fringy changeup rounds out his arsenal, which plays up due to his ability to command it. Schultz has drawn comparisons to Randy Johnson due to his height and arm angle, as he is viewed as a potential top-of-the-rotation starter.
Schultz has completely overwhelmed Triple-A hitters thus far in 2026. He has allowed just three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks over his 14 innings, striking out 19 batters. Although he struggled in his first taste of Triple-A in 2025, Schultz seemingly does not have much left to prove in the minors.
The White Sox have a clear need in the rotation. Opening Day starter Shane Smith was sent to the minors as his command has disappeared in the early going. While Jonathan Cannon has been recalled, he is slated to work as a bulk inning reliever on Sunday, leaving a spot in the rotation open. Schultz could seize that opening if he continues to impress.
Schultz may be the beginning of a completely revamped rotation. Fellow pitching prospects Hagen Smith and Tanner McDougal are also projected to reach the majors this season, with Christian Oppor projected to debut in 2027. The White Sox rebuilding process could quickly accelerate if Schultz and company live up to their prospect status.
