Michigan had the best way of announcing Dusty May's new contract

Michigan Wolverines athletic director Warde Manuel confirmed Saturday that coach Dusty May will be staying, and he did so in the best way possible.

Manuel confirmed on stage at Michigan’s celebratory championship rally in Ann Arbor that he had reached a verbal agreement with May on a new contract.

The news received a huge ovation from fans in attendance, not to mention a celebration from his players.

Take a look:

Obviously, nobody was disclosing the proposed terms of any deal. The news is not a huge surprise, since May never showed any real interest in the North Carolina job he was frequently linked to. That job has already been filled by someone else, at any rate.

May led Michigan to its first national title since 1989 and did so in relatively dominant fashion. Considering the program he inherited two years ago, the job he has done is remarkable, and he certainly has justified his place among the highest-paid coaches in the sport.

May probably noticed what Michael Malone got at North Carolina. He may land something similar from the Wolverines.
