Steve Kerr compares Kawhi Leonard to Brandin Podziemski

The Golden State Warriors will try to keep their season alive on Wednesday when they square off with the Los Angeles Clippers in the play-in tournament.

The Clippers put together one of the most impressive in-season turnarounds in recent NBA history, led by a Kawhi Leonard who's finally healthy in the playoffs.

As such, Warriors coach Steve Kerr knows that stopping him will be a tall order.

That's why he urged his players to keep him away from the charity stripe. To explain his approach, he used Brandin Podziemski and explained how they're both similar.

Steve Kerr talks about stopping Kawhi Leonard

“He's going to really try to get fouled. He's going to do the NBA thing which lots of guys are doing,” Kerr told Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints. “[Brandin Podziemski] does it for us, he'll try to use the rules against the other team and get to the foul line so we have to be prepared for all of that, just like they do with [Brandin Podziemski].”

According to Basketball Reference, Leonard shoots 6.4 free throws a game on 89.2 percent shooting. Podziemski, on the other hand, averages just 2.9 trips to the charity stripe per game, so they're not that similar.

When healthy, Leonard has proven that he can still be one of the most dominant two-way players in the game.

The Warriors can use Draymond Green to try to disrupt his offensive rhythm, but he also has a knack for bending the rules, drawing contact and getting to the line almost at will if needed, though that's not the bulk of his game.

This has been a disappointing campaign for the injury-riddled Warriors, and even if they beat the Clippers as road underdogs, their chances of making a deep postseason run look quite slim right now.
