Browns GM Andrew Berry addresses rumors of blockbuster NFL Draft trade involving Cowboys

Throughout the first half of April, numerous reports and mock drafts suggested that Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry is preparing to make a trade with Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones so that the Browns can move down from the sixth overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft and acquire additional assets needed for Cleveland's ongoing roster rebuild.

On Thursday, Berry spoke carefully when asked during a news conference about such a transaction.

What is Browns' mindset regarding an NFL Draft trade?

"Our mindset isn't about 'Hey, just trade it away.' It's about maximizing the asset," Berry explained, per Nick Pedone of Sports Illustrated. "We will continue to work through all those possibilities all the way until we get on the clock [on the night of April 23]."

According to the previously mentioned stories, the Cowboys may want to acquire Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles at pick No. 6. Meanwhile, Berry seems to be enjoying the constant rumors shared about what may or may not be his draft plans.

"I love how everybody last year thought we weren't trading down, and this year everybody assumes we are," Berry said.

Berry was referencing how Cleveland traded the second overall pick of the 2025 draft, a fourth-round selection and a sixth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the No. 5 overall choice in 2025, a second-round pick, a fourth-round selection and a 2026 first-round choice last spring.

Could the Browns trade up to draft Myles Garrett's replacement?

A recent story hinted that the Browns could use the draft to grab a potential replacement for two-time Defensive Player of the Year Award winner Myles Garrett, who may or may not be traded after June 1. Meanwhile, Ohio State pass-rusher Arvell Reese and Texas Tech defensive end David Bailey are expected to be the draft's second and third picks.

"There is always someone who it is realistic to trade up for unless you have the first pick," Berry added during his comments, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. However, Berry added that answering a question related to such a trade is difficult without knowing exactly what it would cost to move up.

In short, it sounds like the Browns are open for business as it pertains to different trade scenarios. For what it's worth, some think the Tennessee Titans are willing to move down from the fourth pick if a team wants to make a trade for the right to draft Notre Dame Fighting Irish star running back Jeremiyah Love.
